The 3 Common Roofing Repair Issues and How to Fix Them

As a homeowner, you'll always have to deal with roofing repair issues that come in various sizes and cost implications. Most homeowners never realize their roofs have problems until a bigger disaster strikes.

Unresolved roof problems can lead to very costly issues in the long run. These roofing problems don't have to catch you unaware anymore. You can learn about the most common roofing issues and how to fix them so that when trouble knocks, you can easily handle the problem at hand.

Here are three common roofing repair issues you can encounter and how to handle them.

Damage by Snow or Ice

Snow can easily settle on any roof that's widely exposed with minimum cover from tree branches. After some time, the water can cause significant damage to your roof and its parts when this snow or ice melts after some time. If the water melts down and settles inside your roof's shingles, it could remain there and freeze. When this happens, the ice will weaken the shingles by pushing them up, leaving more space for more ice and water to settle in.

To avoid all these issues from happening, you can schedule regular inspections during winter and after to ensure all your shingles are intact and the roof isn't destroyed with water.

Clogged or Blocked Gutters

One of the most rampant roofing problems homeowners grapple with is clogged or blocked gutters. The number one culprit for clogged gutters is high-rise trees that drop their leaves and dead twigs on top of the roof. When these leaves get their way into your gutter, they accumulate and eventually clog or block it.

You can choose to trim the trees around your home to reduce the number of leaves falling on your roof. Alternatively, you can choose to constantly clear off the twigs and leaves from your roof to prevent them from getting into your gutters. A more effective way is to install screens on the opening of your gutters to sieve out the leaves and twigs from getting into the gutters.

Leaking Roofs

Roof leaks stand as the most common roofing repair issues homeowners have to deal with continually. Adverse weather conditions are often the primary cause of leaking roofs. Rain, snow, and strong winds that continually batter your roof lead to moisture accumulation under the roof layers. This makes it easier for water to flow down from the roof to your house.

You need to monitor your roof's condition by hiring a roofing repair team to check your roof for any signs of leaks. Preventing these leaks from advancing can save you a lot of money and time in the future.
